Citizens

There are various options and requirements to obtain Naturalization and Citizenship in the United States.

People who are born in the United States are considered US citizens.

However, there are three other ways to become a US citizen: by naturalization, by derivation or acquisition of citizenship (in limited cases).

To obtain U.S. citizenship through naturalization, you must complete the naturalization process and meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Be a permanent resident (have a green card or "Green Card").

  • Meet other requirements that may vary according to your age, marital status, and military service.

  • Complete the forms required by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) along with the delivery of all required documentation.

Subsequently, the candidate must present a series of examinations established in the immigration laws of the United States. At the moment of the swearing-in ceremony, the candidate will obtain a certificate of naturalization and become a U.S. citizen.
